This is an easy appetizer that tastes great.
1 Apple, Granny Smith $0.39
4 ounces brie cheese $1.37 (Trader Joes!)
1 medium vidalia onion $0.40
2 tablespoons butter $0.08
1/2 of a baguette $1.00
Total Cost = $3.24
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Saute the onions in the butter over medium heat until they are caramelized. This should take about 15 minutes.
While the onion is cooking, cut the baguette in half (unless you are feeding more than 4 you won’t need the whole thing!). Cut the baguette into 1/4 inch rounds, or to your desired thickness (we like them pretty thin). Lay them on an ungreased cookie sheet.
Cut the apple in half, and slice thinly. Cut the brie into thin slices.
When you are ready to assemble, top each baguette round with a spoonful of the caramelized onion. Top with an apple slice, and a piece of the brie.
Bake until the cheese is melted but not burned, 8-10 minutes.
Can I come over for lunch today? Are you serving these?
