These are perfect to eat on their own….but they are mighty good with ice cream….or dipped in chocolate fondue!
2 sticks butter $0.70
9 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips $1.50
1 1/4 cups brown sugar $0.65
4 large eggs $0.45
1/2 teaspoon salt $Free (ish)
3/4 cup sugar $0.30
1 tablespoon vanilla extract $0.19
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour $0.30
Total Cost: $4.09 (ok… a little more than brownie
mix, but the value is x 1000)
Grease (with butter) a 9 by 13 inch pan. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Cut the butter into small pieces and place in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir the butter as it begins to melt, and let it boil for about 10 seconds. Remove the pan from the heat and pour the chocolate chips into the hot butter. Shake the pan a bit to cover the chocolate with the melted butter. This will melt the chocolate. Whisk smooth.
Put the brown sugar and eggs (one at a time) into a mixer fitted with the paddle. Add the salt, sugar, and vanilla and beat until smooth.
Pour in the melted butter/chocolate mixture and stir until mixed. Add the flour and mix until incorporated.
Pour batter into greased baking pan and bake for about 35-40 minutes. Cool before cutting. Try not to eat in one sitting.
