How can you go wrong when you combine those ingredients?

3 tablespoons butter                                   $0.12

3/4 cup packed brown sugar                  $0.50

1 tablespoon water                                      $free

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips      $2.00

1 egg                                                                   $0.12

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract                   $0.05

1 1/4 cups all purpose flour                     $0.30

3/4 teaspoon baking soda                         $0.05

1/2 teaspoon salt                                          $free (ish)

1/2 cup raspberry preserves                   $1.50

3/4 cup macadamia nuts, chopped       $1.00

Total Cost:                                                        $4.64 (makes 12 good sized bars.)

                                                                                            (price per bar = $0.39)

(that’s a killer profit at your next bake sale.)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a rimmed cookie sheet with butter.

In a saucepan, combine the butter, brown sugar, water, and half of the chocolate chips. Cook on low heat until the chips are melted. Stir frequently to make sure nothing burns! Once this has combined, turn off heat and let it cool for five minutes. Once the chocolate has cooled, stir in eggs and vanilla.

In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt; gradually add this to the chocolate mixture.  Mix well. Spread this out over the pre-greased pan. Bake this for 10 minutes.

After putting this in the oven, melt the remaining chocolate in a double-boiler. After it’s melted, let it cool a little bit (though not solidifying) and put it in a plastic zip-top bag. Set aside. Chop the macadamia nuts.

When the chocolate baked goodness is out of oven, spread the raspberry preserves evenly over the top. Sprinkle chopped macadamia nuts over the preserves.

Take the bag of chocolate and snip one of the bottom corners (ever-so-slightly) so that a tiny hole forms. Use this to squeeze the chocolate out on top of the bars in whatever design you please. ENJOY!
