Chocolate Pound Cake

This is a delicious, moist chocolate cake that has always been a family favorite. My dad often requested this for his birthday cake, so this year, this can be a father’s day cake! It tastes great alone, but it’s especially yummy with fresh strawberries and some vanilla ice cream!

3 sticks butter                                        $0.36

2 1/2 cups sugar                                   $1.00

1/2 cup brown sugar                          $0.34

3 cups all-purpose flour                    $0.15

5 heaping teaspoons cocoa              $0.40

1/2 tsp. baking powder                      $0.04

1/4 tsp. salt                                             $free (ish)

5 eggs                                                         $0.60

1 cup milk                                                 $0.16

1 tsp. vanilla                                            $0.08

Total Cost =                    $3.13

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.

Using a mixer, cream together butter, sugar, and brown sugar.

In a separate bowl, sift together flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt.

Add eggs one at a time to creamed (butter/sugar) misture. Gradually add milk, vanilla, and dry ingredients.

Grease (shortening works best) and flour sides of LARGE tube pan or bundt pan.

Bake for 1 hour and 20 minutes.
