We’ve been out of town a lot lately, but when we’re in town, it seems like we just sit around and say, “Gosh, we love our house!” We have had a blast making it our own. I talked about some projects we were working on in this post, so I figured I’d give a quick pictorial update. (Disclaimer: I ran around the house snapping these photos on my phone before our Julia Child dinner party, so they aren’t the best quality, but you get the idea.)
The dining room was an easy, almost instant face-lift for the whole house. It went from BOLD blood-red to calm Williamsburg Blue:
The kitchen has also experienced some major changes. The cabinets were light brown, and screamed cheap wood/laminate. So, we had them painted white (yes they are still cheap wood underneath!). The walls were urine-yellow. (Goodness, I hope the sellers don’t read our blog.) So, we changed the walls to a light gray-blue. We removed the wooden “shade” from above the sink and installed a funky, industrial cage light. We also removed the pot-rack from the ceiling, which was too large and made the room feel clunky. And last but not least, our super-handy friends helped us remove the awkward built-in that connects the kitchen and the next room, which we affectionately call “The Snuggery.”
OH! And we had this killer new gas cooktop installed:
The screened porch is still a work in progress, but we’re loving the new rug:
And the living room still needs some art over the mantel and a few other touches, but we’re pretty happy with it for now:
The den (formally a purple nursery) is now a nice, light gray. This is where we watch TV and I fall sound asleep on the couch. 🙂
Basically, it’s been a very busy month or so. We’re really happy with the changes we’ve made so far, and we’ve got more planned. I’ll save the guest room, bedroom, and the yard for my next post about the house! If you want to see it before then, you’ll have to come visit. 🙂
Yes, paint the fireplace! I painted mine, looked just like yours, and I love it!! Love what you have done to your home.

Lovely changes to the house. The white kitchen cabinets look great. Congratulations on your new home. I am sure you and Gardner will enjoy many happy years there.
