Braised Squab

We just passed several important culinary milestones. First – we cooked our first squab (yes, basically, that’s a pigeon, but a delicious one at that). Second, we had to start from scratch on preparing this bird – at $10 per pound, they’re kind enough to include the head, feet, and guts all still intact. It [...]

Tilapia with Purple Potato Crust and Chive Rosemary Oil

Thanks, Giada, for making tilapia interesting again.
You see, we are sale shoppers… and our local grocery store recently had tilapia for $2.99/pound, which seemed to us like a greeattt deal. We got EIGHT 6 ounce fillets for 9 dollars and change. Woohoo! The result of this mass purchase, however, has been tilapia after tilapia after [...]

Stuffed Heirloom Tomatoes

These are great if you’re looking for a nice appetizer or part of a tapas meal. Even though cutting the tomatoes is time-consuming a little tedious, it is well worth the effort when you’re enjoying the final product. Mini-heirlooms may be hard to find if you don’t have a Trader Joe’s around, but the colors [...]

Sherry and Rosemary Mushrooms

This is one of our favorite ways to enjoy mushrooms. This recipe probably works best with “baby bellas” (also known as cremini mushrooms) but we’ve tried it with both oyster mushrooms and regular old white mushrooms with pretty good results.

Fried Eggplant

Another piece of summertime happiness, eggplants are now featured on the table at our local produce stand. We were excited to see them at a very frugal price, and this is one of the dishes we tried. It was great as an appetizer for two, but there are many more occasions where this would work [...]

Braised Lamb Shank with Rosemary and Orange Zest

This was our first try with a lamb shank and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Though we can’t usually find one at our local grocery store, the lamb shanks just appeared one day and we sure were happy about it. If we’re lucky enough, there will be more versions of braised lamb shank coming soon!

These are a great accompaniment to any dinner – serve them hot with some butter…
Are they all gone? Can I have another one? Please?

What’s missing from the new thincrust recipe?

The pizza to go with it!
Here’s the recipe for our Margherita pizza that we made using the rosemary thincrust pizza dough. $8.00 for an extra large pizza – I’d like to see any pizza parlor beat that!
